What is a diabetes diet?
A diabetes diet is structured in such a way that you are able to identify compatible foods for meals and at snack times. This type of diet should consist of meal plans that fit in with our own unique schedule and eating habits. The right meal plan will help you improve your blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol numbers while also helping to keep your weight on track. Whether you need to lose weight or remain where you are, your meal plan can help.
People with diabetes have to take extra care to make sure that their food is balanced with insulin and oral medications, along with exercise to help manage their blood glucose levels.
This seem sound like a lot of work, but your physician and/or dietitian can help you to create a meal plan that is best for you. When you make healthy food choices, you will improve your overall health and you can even prevent further complications from occuring, including heart disease, some cancers, and hypertension.
There are many ways to help you follow your diabetes diet. Some ways are following the Food Guide Pyramid, Rating your Plate, Exchanges Lists, and Carbohydrate Counting. They are all different, but hopefully one is right for you.

It is rather disheartening, knowing you can’t eat just anything when you are hungry, but then we often feeeeeel huuuuungryyyy! all the same, one has to be careul, for “later”
Diabetic patient has to take proper diet and has to avoid junk and oily food. one has to be very concious what he/she eats. Eat lot of green vegetable every day in order to keep healthy life. I would like to suggest that dont increase the level of diabetes so that one has to take insulin every day.
Insulin don’t always work though, don’t rely too much on them
We all know what diabetes could bring. If we doesn’t change our eating habit now, we will suffer later. By the way, I have read some article about Mediterranean diet. Maybe you guys should check it out. Thanks
Since both of my parents are older and have diabetes, its hard to convince them on making healthier choices. Prevention is always the better action, but I couldn’t catch it fast enough to help them. Now, maintenance is the key.
My husband was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last year, and it completely changed the way we both choose what we eat every day! As a result of watching carbs, portion sizes and adding exercise to our daily routine, we have both lost 30-40 lbs. My husband has also been able to keep his sugar levels in the normal range, and his doctor is pleased!
I’m 62 and concerned with my health. Prevention is better than hospitalization. Be Active!
